For Lens Calculation

The angle of view of a lens depends on the focal length of the lens, and on the size of the sensor (or film) upon which the image is being projected. This lens calculator works out the angle of view for any lens/sensor combination at the moment you make a selection, and the result is drawn on the adjacent graph.

Why is my camera defaulting to Japanese?

That's a shared bug - Java is supposed to return English as the locale (or another language depending on your country). If it doesn't return a value, it defaults to Japanese, which is where the code was written. You can force the "locale" parameter on the control applet to "english" as shown in the following example:

<applet archive="LiveApplet.zip"
codebase="http://111.222.333.444:80/-wvdoc-01-/LiveApplet/"
code="LiveApplet.class" width="450" height="380" align="middle">
        <param name="url"        value="http://111.222.333.444:80/">
        <param name="cabbase"        value="LiveApplet.cab">
        <param name="capture_size"    value="320x240">
        <param name="locale"    value="english">
        <param name="video_width"    value="320">
        <param name="bg_color"        value="#ececec">
        <param name="show_panobutton" value="on">
        <param name="show_logo" value="off">
      </applet>
*You must change the IP addresses and port number (111.222.333.444:80 in the example) to your camera's actual IP address.
