What size lens do I use?
- Arecont Vision Megapixel cameras use a 1/2" sensor. A 1/2" optical size or larger lens must be used. (CCD cameras typically use 1/3" lens).
What type of lens?
- "Megapixel" lenses should be used. Yes, there is a class of lenses called Megapixel. Arecont suggests using lenses from well known companies, such as Computar, Fujinon, Tamron or Pentax. These are all great performance lenses.
Auto-Iris versus non Auto-Iris
- Arecont Vision's most popular cameras are manual iris cameras. All Arecont cameras feature a CMOS sensor rather than a CCD sensor that is used in most analog cameras. The CMOS sensors do not exhibit the bright light blooming problem or vertical smearing that is seen in CCD sensors. CCD sensors require auto-iris for minimizing the blooming effect. In general, non auto-iris lenses are far superior in quality to auto-iris lenses.
What is the proper aperture setting for a megapixel camera?
- The optimal aperture range for megapixel lenses is f2.0 to f4.0.
What type of lenses should be used for the AV3130M (DayNight)?
- The AV3130M lens mounts are very close to each other. Only fixed focal length lenses will mount onto the AV3130 series. These fixed focal length lenses range from 4mm to 50mm. Most megapixel varifocal lenses are too large to fit. The lens outside diameter must be no larger than 1.5". All fixed focal length lenses (except Computar 5mm) listed will fit the AV3130M.
